A stronghold of the magnificent faith. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel completed it in 1641, and His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the late King, rebuilt it into its current form between 1962 and 1969. Bhutan's Paro district is home to Taktsang Monastery, also referred to as Tiger's Nest Monastery. One of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas is the monastery. Taktsang is 2,950 meters (9,678 feet) above ocean level, perched atop a rock that rises 800 meters (2,600 feet) above the valley. Depending on your level of fitness, the climb to the monastery from the Ramthangkha road, which is 12 kilometers from Paro town, takes two to three hours.
